In some countries in Africa, the Middle East and Asia, the practice of cutting the genitals of women and girls between the ages of five and 15 is still practiced, affecting more than 230 million people worldwide.
On February 6 each year, the World Day for the Elimination of Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) is observed.
The World Health Organization (WHO) estimates that more than 230 million women and girls worldwide have undergone some or all of their genitals.
Women who undergo FGM have no rights or other benefits.
It is a procedure that can be fatal for the patient due to prolonged heavy bleeding, who, even if he recovers, will always have problems with genital infections in those areas and painful ejaculation.
Not only that, the circumcised person cannot have sexual satisfaction. He is constantly depressed, has difficulty giving birth, which also increases the mortality of newborns.
WHO indicates that more than $ 1.4 million is spent each year on treating these women and girls, and that if nothing is done, it can increase.
This circumcision is performed in different ways, but the most worrying is where they cut off all the external parts and then sew them up, leaving a small opening for urination.
The person who has undergone this circumcision will need to have another surgery to be able to have sex and be able to give birth.
This circumcision is performed mainly due to the cultures of the countries, especially since parents consider it as a way to protect their children from engaging in immoral behaviors.
The WHO says this is considered a violation of human rights.
The WHO calls for action across all sectors, including health, education, justice and women’s rights, to combat this practice of female genital mutilation (FGM) on women and girls.
