Ugandan President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has revealed that there are foods that are abundant in the country he leads, such as eggs, chicken and pork, that he cannot eat.
A message from President Museveni posted on Wall X of the Ugandan Presidency on January 13, 2025, shows that President Museveni does not eat foods that contain eggs and chicken.
He said, “It is those who eat bread and rice that make us import some of our foods. I do not eat chicken, pork, eggs, etc. because I come from a region that is prone to malnutrition, but these are available in abundance.”
“That is why restaurant and hotel services in Uganda have been struggling with our agricultural sector, except for foods like rice and wheat.”
Foods that are available in Uganda are related to those in the East African region, such as maize, bananas, cassava, sweet potatoes, etc.
Rice consumed in Uganda is being imported, and as of 2023, imports worth US$126 million were expected from countries including Tanzania, Pakistan, and India.
