The Hamas militant group that controls the Gaza Strip has released eight prisoners, including five Thais, as part of a ceasefire agreement between the two sides.
On January 30, 2025, the Israeli military confirmed that the freed prisoners included 20-year-old soldier Agam Berger, as well as 29-year-old Arberl Yehud and 80-year-old Gadi Moshe Mozes.
Among the freed prisoners were five Thais, according to the Thai Foreign Ministry, which said the freed citizens, Thaenna Pongsak, Sathian Suwannakhan, Sriaoun Watchara, Saetheo Bannawat and Rumnao Surasak, will return to their country within 10 days.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu called it “a wonderful and exciting development.” However, the leader requested that in the event of a prisoner transfer, security should be tightened because there are often many people present at the scene of the operation, which could also affect the prisoners being released.
On the other hand, Israel released 110 Palestinians who were being held in the country.
Meanwhile, 10 Palestinians from the West Bank were killed by Israel in an attack it said was aimed at hunting down armed men.
