About 60 people died while trying to pump fuel after a truck they were driving crashed on the morning of January 18, 2025, on the Dikko road connecting Nigeria’s capital, Abuja, and the city of Kaduna.
After the accident, residents in the area rushed to pump fuel when the truck exploded, sending flames and smoke into the air, killing them.
The head of the Nigeria Road Safety Agency, Kumar Tsukwam, said the truck was carrying 60,000 liters of fuel.
This is not the first time residents have died trying to pump fuel, as last year 170 people died after a truck carrying fuel crashed in Jigawa State in northern Nigeria.
