The Sudanese Premier League teams have resumed their domestic matches after being suspended due to the ongoing fighting between the national army and the RSF armed group.
The matches, which took place on the evening of Friday, January 10, 2025, were played in various cities in the country including Al Qadarif, Kosti, Dongola and Atbara, and were the last to be held there in a year and nine months.
Last month, when Sudan secured a ticket to play in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco, Ghanaian national team coach James Kwesi Appiah said that football is one of the solutions to the problems.
He said, “Getting a ticket to the CAN was my first goal, I have achieved it now and I am satisfied. Another reason why I signed the agreement is to end the current wars. Who knows, you might find that football is the place where wars stop. The players have shown that it is possible.”
Following the good performance of the ‘Falcons of Jediane’, the Ruhago Association in Sudan has also decided to resume matches in some possible parts of the country where there is security and the local stadiums are not severely damaged.
The war in Sudan, which began in 2023, has already claimed the lives of more than 24,000 people, displaced about 11 million people, and nearly three million have fled to neighboring countries.
